There was a competition held at the Seoul Olympic Parktel last Sept 21^st. The said competition was tagged as the Racing Model Queen Competition. There were over 20 competitors who participated the event. All wore bikinis and they were considered to be the “flowers” of the motoring world. Although the name implies a good deal of respect, some of the models testify that it is not always the case. Some of them had to endure harsh comments on their looks basing from their pictures on the web. Apart from this, there is also the misconception of racing models as sex objects—these as well as other prejudices are just some of the things that racing models live up with.

According to one of the models interviewed by chosun.com, “Sometimes races are held even in December. Though it’s extremely cold, we have to cheer people at racing tracks wearing zest tops, hot pants or miniskirts. It feels like being frozen alive. It’s really hard to work in very hot or cold weather, but we have to smile at all times, no matter how cold or hot it is.” Physical discomfort combined with the emotional baggage makes some of these models think about quitting their jobs. Most of them have a 10 minute break per hour. As models, they walk the racing tracks and cheer the racers most of the time, pose for photographs and had to stand for a long period of time. They get paid well but like most celebrities, it is not all glamour.
